Russian Aerospace Forces to be the first to receive new Mi-38

Russian Defense Ministry will be the first customer of the new Mi-38 multipurpose helicopter.

Military agency along with the ‘Russian Helicopters’ holding have arranged the preliminary order and terms of delivery to the Russian Aerospace Forces.

“Transport modification of the Mi-38 helicopter helps increase functionality and extend area of application by making special-purpose, including ‘arctic’ modification of the helicopter. The new vehicle will undergo a series of flight tests to meet requirements of the military. According to the results of the tests, they will draft the Mi-38 procurements for the Aerospace Forces” – a RH representative said.

The Mi-38 helicopter is designed to fill the gap between the mid helicopters of the Mi-8/17/171 family and the heavy Mi-26. If cargo is carried in cabin, the loading capacity is 6 tons, if on external load, 7 tons. The helicopter can carry up to 30 persons. The craft has 2 TV7-117V engines that make 2.5 thous. horsepower each. The Mi-38 is manufactured at the Kazan helicopter plant.
