Russian shipbuilding industry will be able to produce new aircraft-carriers after shipyards’ upgrading is over. It is supposed to be over by 2019, Alexei Rakhmanov, head of the USC, said to ‘Rossiya-24’.

OSK is considering building the advanced aircraft carrier at the Saint-Petersburg’s ‘Severnaya Verf’.

“When it comes to technical capabilities, after upgrading is over, we are more likely to be able to produce heavy-tonnage vessels, starting in 2019. Either it is a civil or a military vessel, including an aircraft-carrier”, Rakhmanov said.

The Corporation also has enough resources to start building the helicopter-carrying vessels, similar to the ‘Mistrals’ which France failed to deliver to Russia.

Russian Navy currently has only 1 operative aircraft-carrier which is ‘Admiral Kuznetsov’. Russia’s Defense ministry earlier said the question of building an aircraft-carrier would be solved no sooner than in 5 years time.
