Mig-31 to remain in service until 2028

Sergey Korotkov, representative of the UAC, said at the FIDAE 2016 that the upgraded interceptor would remain in service with the Russian Aerospace Force for another 12 years.

According to him, after 2028, further modernization of the craft would be impossible.

Mig-31 is the first Russian aircraft of the fourth generation, designed for the air defense of the country. The aircraft is designed for long-term patrolling, fighting highflying reconnaissance aircraft and strategic bombers.

Large-scale upgrading of the MiG-31 to the MiG-31BM modification for the Russian Defense Ministry is underway.
