The vehicle was based on ‘Rakushka’ multi-purpose air-assault armored personnel carrier.

Commander of the Russian Airborne forces colonel-general Vladimir Shamanov reported the news.

“They are now putting through trial the ‘Robot’ anti-tank artillery vehicle based on the ‘Rakushka’ APC, as well as medical support vehicle and NBC protection vehicle”, he said.

The MDM ‘Rakushka’ APC is an air-assault armored personnel carrier, developed at the ‘Traktorniye zavodi’ concern for the airborne troops. The vehicle is to replace the old Soviet BTR-D armored personnel carriers. The BTR-MDM was developed on the chassis of the BMD-4M airborne assault vehicle.

‘Rakushka’ has been being delivered to the Airborne forces for run-in-tests since 2013. In 2015 they’ve increased mass-produced batches of vehicles.
