“Yuri Dolgorukiy” is through with the under ice cruise to the Arctic

“Yuri Dolgorukiy” underwater missile carrier has accomplished its first long-distance cruise through the Arctic ocean. The under ice cruise had been on for over two months. The ship returned to the base of Submarine forces of the Northern fleet on 15 October, Russian Defense ministry says.

The cruiser has fulfilled all the tasks set. The ship is working order, the crew is in good health and ready for the new orders, Vladimir Shirin, the submarine commander reported.

By tradition, during the meeting ceremony the ship’s commander is rewarded with a fried pig. Distinguished military were awarded with honorary certificates.

The “Yuriy Dolgorukiy” strategic underwater missile cruiser is head ship of the “Borey” project as well as a most sophisticated Russian submarine. It entered service with the Navy in 2013. The “Bulava” intercontinental sea-launched missile complex and torpedo armament are installed on the ship. Its load displacement is 24 thous. tons, length is 160 metres, width is 13 metres.
