‘Topol’, ‘Topol-M’ as well as ‘Yars’ missile systems have gone on combat patrol routes in 7 Russian regions.
Russian Defense ministry reports: “10 missile regiments have gone on combat duty, on full alert. Out of them, there are 7 land-based mobile missile systems — ‘Topol’, ‘Topol-M’ and ‘Yars'. The regiments will go on combat duty routes in Ivanovo, Novosibirsk, Sverdlovsk, Kirovsk, Irkutsk region as well as Altai Krai and Mari El Republic.
It was earlier reported that 5 missile regiments had entered combat duty in the frame of military exercise.
The solid-fuel missile of ‘Topol’ system entered service in 1988 with the Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces. ‘Topol-M’ is the first strategic ballistic missile developed in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. It can carry up to 550 kilotons of TNT equivalent’s charge at a distance of 11 thousand kilometers. The RS-24 ‘Yars’ is the further modification of ‘Topol’ that entered service in 2011.
